Liverpool and LIPA actors: where to film your reel
Liverpool and LIPA actors: where to film your reel
Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester runs in 35 to 50 minutes with services several times an hour, then about 15 minutes to our studio. Director-led monologue sessions are £195 or £295, with 15% off for LIPA and Liverpool Hope students, delivered in 5-10 working days.
Liverpool trains hard and works hard. What it does not have much of is studios that do nothing but film actors' monologues.
Which is why the Manchester line gets used as heavily as it does.
The journey
Lime Street to Manchester in 35 to 50 minutes depending on the service, several times an hour, all day.
Then roughly fifteen minutes to the studio — tram to Deansgate-Castlefield, or a ten-minute cab from Piccadilly. Full detail on our Liverpool page.
For most Liverpool actors this is a shorter trip than crossing London would be. It is a morning, not a day.
LIPA and Liverpool Hope
A LIPA graduate leaves with training most actors would envy and, very often, nothing an agent can watch. The showcase is live, coursework is not a reel, and the Spotlight video slot sits empty.
The 15% student discount applies to current students and recent graduates — £165.75 for one piece, £250.75 for up to three. Details on the drama students page.
The useful window is the months either side of your showcase, while the material is still rehearsed. Full sequencing in the graduate checklist.
Working round a show
Liverpool has a lot of actors in production at any given time, and the geography helps here.
An early slot plus a sub-hour journey home means a session and an evening performance on the same day is genuinely realistic. Say so when you book and we will schedule accordingly.
If you already have footage
Liverpool's screen sector has been busy for a decade, so a fair number of local actors have short-film or broadcast material sitting unedited.
Do not book a shoot on reflex. Send it over and we will quote a flat fee to cut and grade it — showreel editing, and this guide covers how to tell which you need.
Often the strongest option is a hybrid: your existing scene plus one new monologue covering what it does not show.
What a session involves
A private blacked-out set, lighting rebuilt between pieces, and a director giving adjustments rather than just pressing record. The full hour is described in what a session actually involves.
Prices, inclusions and turnaround are on sessions and pricing, and what to bring is in what to wear and the 7-day plan.
Choosing material
Two contrasting contemporary pieces inside your casting bracket. Use your own accent if it is genuinely yours — see the accent question and choosing a monologue.
Send a shortlist a week before and we will tell you which will cut best.
Watch the standard on the gallery, see what the format is on monologue showreels, and call 0161 706 3220 or use the contact form to get dates. Other cities are on where we film.
Merseyside beyond the city centre
Bootle, Birkenhead, the Wirral, St Helens and Southport all feed into the same Lime Street services, and the journey barely changes. If you are on the Wirral, Chester is sometimes the easier railhead — around an hour, and covered on the Chester page.
Booking around a busy diary
Liverpool actors tend to be in something. Tell us what your week looks like and we will work round it — early slots, late slots, or a day either side of a get-out.
What the session itself involves is in what a session actually involves, and how long delivery takes is in turnaround times.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take from Liverpool to the studio?
35 to 50 minutes from Lime Street to Manchester depending on the service, then about 15 minutes by tram to Deansgate-Castlefield and a short walk. Direct trains run several times an hour throughout the day.
Do you film a lot of LIPA students?
Regularly — LIPA and Liverpool Hope actors are among the most frequent travellers to the studio. The 15% drama student discount applies to current students and recent graduates, making a single-monologue session £165.75.
Can I film in the morning and make an evening show?
Usually. A 30-minute session plus the travel fits comfortably inside a morning. Tell us at booking that you are working to a curtain and we will put you in the earliest slot of the day.
Why not film in Liverpool?
You can, and there are excellent crews there. The difference is a permanent blacked-out set with a fixed camera and lighting package and a director who works on it weekly, rather than a space hired and rigged on the morning.
Can a group of us come together?
Yes, and from Liverpool it is easy — consecutive slots on one day share the journey and are simpler for us to schedule. Tell us numbers when you enquire.
